employee thought you talk at the end of your article about the mexican mafia is operating in northern california. are there serious indications that they are and what are the chances we'll see more drug violence here in the u.s.? >> no, i don't think that there are of-that the mexican mafia is this a huge way involved in drug distribution at a local level inside the united states. i think one thing to keep in mind, the general talks about adolescent drug use numbers, but the numbers for overall drug use in particular for overall chronic drug use are down pretty dramatically over the last decade and a half. if you look at the numbers for cocaine, for example, according to the national household survey, we have half the number of chronic cocaine users that we did just six years ago. that's astonishing. so i think in the long run, what we're talking about is a market for drugs in the united states, particularly hard drugs, that is diminishing. and i think what you will see and that what we've already seen in the long arc since the crack epidemic is a decline in the violence that accompanies that. n
